Principal's Statement

County Westmeath Vocational Education Committee opened the first post-primary school in Castlepollard in 1937. Its main aim was to serve the educational needs of the local farming community's children. It operated as a four-teacher school in its early years offering subjects such as Home Economics, Book-keeping, Mathematics, Irish, English, Woodwork, Mechanical Drawing, and with a strong emphasis on Rural Science.

Enrolment in the day school was approximately 40-50. Adult Education was a key function of Vocational Education in rural Ireland at that time. Castlepollard Community College provided courses such as Farm accounts, Boat building, Dress-making, Irish dancing and Irish language courses.

With the advent of free education in the late 1960s Castlepollard Community College experienced expansion with increased enrolment and a much wider curriculum.

Current enrolment is approximately 170 day students doing Junior Certificate, Leaving Certificate and Post-Leaving Certificate Courses. The school also provides a comprehensive range of subjects in its Adult Education Programmes.
