Westmeath VEC Adult Education Mission Statement
Westmeath VEC Adult and Community Education programmes aim to provide comprehensive, inclusive, accessible and quality Adult and Community Education initiatives, which will cater for the continuing educational needs of all adults in the community.
Adult Education Policy and Provision
The Vocational Education Committee in Westmeath has a long and very successful history in providing education for adults within the county. We believe education is a basic right for all and a powerful tool to achieve social inclusion in Ireland. Education was provided to more than 6000 members of the community annually. This was focused on the most disadvantaged within the community and provided on a needs led basis. While the existing courses including VTOS, Literacy, Traveller Education, Night Classes and Community Education continue to flourish new initiatives are creating more exciting developments. Part-time flexible courses have been introduced under the Back to Education Initiative, as envisaged in the White Paper 2000. Community Groups have benefited from the appointment of a Community Education Facilitator and the new Arts Education Organiser is planning many exciting innovations. The Adult Educational Guidance Service continues to provide a pivotal role in all aspects of the service. We look forward to another productive and exciting year for lifelong learning in Westmeath.
