Adult Learners Festival 2010 - 22nd - 26th February 2010 - 'Celebrate Learning'

The Adult Learners Festival is a nationwide celebration of adult learning coordinated by Aontas. It is about:
  • Celebrating adult learning and the achievements of adult learners
  • Showcasing the work of adult education providers

Co. Westmeath VEC Adult Education Service organised a number of events:

Tuesday 23rd February: Open Day - Further Education Centre, Kilbeggan

The Open Day was a huge success. Many of the local people came to support us and have a look around the centre. They were all interested in the programmes we provide and delighted to meet the students and see their work on display. The student provided demonstrations in Woodwork, IT, Art and Cooking. The freshly baked scones and buns added to welcoming atmosphere in the centre.

Wednesday 24th February 'Bring a Friend Day' - Adult Education Centre, Athlone

Students from South Westmeath Adult Learning Programmes brought a friend with them for the day. They sat in on specially provided classes - Cooking in the morning and Horticulture in our tunnel in the afternoon. They were very impressed with the centre and the facilitieson offer. They will come back again.
"I am delighted to have joined you on 'Bring a Friend Day'. It was so nice to meet Nuala, Mary, Angela's class, friend and the VEC staff. You can invite me next year. " Ursula

Thursday 25th February: Launch Annual Report & Coffee Morning for Haiti -  Adult Education Centre, Mullingar

The coffee morning was a massive hit. We received suport from all the organisation in the business park as well as the students and staff who all brought cakes, buns, etc.

Friday 26th February: FETAC Level 1 Award Ceremony

15 participants from South Westmeath Adult Learning Programmes received full FETAC Level 1  Awards. They were the first in the county to receive such an award. FETAC was represented by Donal Griffin who provided an inspiring speech. The awards were presented to the learners by a special guest - Pascal Brennan. It was a wonderful day and captured what the festival was all about. It was a great way to close the festival.
